The Business of Superyachts: Camper & Nicholsons Marinas Joins Industry Debate at Malta Maritime Summit

Camper & Nicholsons Marinas took part in a panel discussion at the recent Malta Maritime Summit (MMS).

Technical Director Mathieu Salomon joined fellow industry leaders to explore how changing ownership, charter and investment trends are shaping the future of the superyacht sector.

The session, The Business of Superyachts: Changing Ownership, Charter and Investment Trends, looked at how a shifting market is redefining what owners, captains and charter guests expect. As ownership profiles evolve, charter markets mature and client expectations become ever more sophisticated, the impact is being felt well beyond the yachts themselves, extending to the marinas that welcome them.

For marina developers and operators, these changes raise important questions.

  • Is the industry building the right infrastructure for tomorrow’s fleet?
  • Are marina investments keeping pace with new patterns of ownership and changing vessel requirements?
  • And how can developers balance commercial returns with the increasingly complex technical and operational demands of superyachts?

Drawing on more than 18 years of experience in the international marina sector, Mathieu emphasised the importance of aligning marina planning and investment decisions with market demand, operational needs and long-term commercial sustainability.

“The success of a superyacht marina is not simply measured by the number or size of yachts it can accommodate,” he said. “It’s about its ability to respond to the evolving needs of the market while delivering sustainable commercial value.”

This thinking sits at the heart of Camper & Nicholsons Marinas’ approach to marina development, consultancy and operations, ensuring the facilities we design and manage are ready not only for today’s fleet, but for the yachts and owners of the future.

The Malta Maritime Summit provides a valuable platform to exchange perspectives with peers from across the maritime and yachting industries, and we thank the organisers and our fellow panellists for an engaging and thought-provoking discussion.
