Grand Harbour Marina Staff Feature – Edward Sammut

It’s February in Malta and that only means one thing, Maltese Carnival.

A weekend of extravagantly coloured floats, outrageously fancy costumes, music and parades. It is celebrated right before the start of Lent and is a tradition which has survived through centuries.

This brings us to this month’s Staff Spotlight, Edward Sammut. Edward leads the maintenance department at Grand Harbour Marina where he has worked here for over 4 years. He is the first point of contact for yachts, assisting them with their shore power, electricity. Although greatly interested in the yachting industry, Edwards true passion lies in the Maltese Traditional Carnival.

Edward Sammut comments:

“I have seen a change for the good in the marina over the years as it continuously improves its shore side facilities and electrical & utility metering systems.”

Sammut continues:

“This is something my whole family gets involved in, I am more interested in the construction and engineering of the floats while my wife is a dancer. I am continuously blown away by the detail and effort which goes in to preparing for the carnival each year. It is something I am very proud to be a part of.”

Last year, Edward and his team at the Triton Carnival Company took home first place in Section A Triumphal, something which Grand Harbour Marina were very proud of.

The Maltese Carnival is a tradition which is enjoyed by all ages, as it brings out the inner child in all of us. It is a MUST SEE for anyone visiting the island this time of year.
