Malta artists on display at Saint-Tropez summer exhibition

Three artists from Malta have contributed works to an art exhibition being held in Saint-Tropez this summer.

Painters Caroline Navarro and James Vella Clark, along with photographer Kurt Arrigo, were invited to join an artistic exchange between Vittoriosa and Saint-Tropez that will see their works hang alongside those of well known Tropezienne artists and sculptors at the 14th annual Salon de Peintres et Sculpteurs de Saint-Tropez.

Opening on Saturday 27 June – to coincide with the start of the Trophee Bailli de Suffren – and running to 14 July, this year’s exhibition has a distinctly nautical theme. Caroline Navarro has contributed six paintings depicting sailing yachts set against the dramatic background of Valletta and Grand Harbour, while James Vella Clark’s works focus on Malta’s architectural splendour. Kurt Arrigo, the only photographer in the exhibition, is one of the world’s top yachting photographers but here is showing images of Malta from a very different perspective – including from beneath the waves.

This collaboration between the artistic communities of Vittoriosa and Saint-Tropez shows the strengthening cultural bonds between the two historic ports, following their official twinning in 2012 – bonds that will be further reinforced by the 14th edition of the Trophee Bailli de Suffrenwhich finishes in Malta’s Grand Harbour Marina on 8 July.
